Today my husband and sons are also diehard Yankees fan. I recently wrote a post, What The New York Yankees Did For My BIL, about the way the new Yankees Stadium treated my BIL with cancer. They were very kind, generous and accommodating and made him feel like a star himself!

I didn’t even know whether Yankees win World Series 2009 last night because I feel asleep during the 8th inning! It was a long day and they were in the lead so I figured they would win. I knew they won by the joyful bellowing from my husband!

This morning the first thing my son asked was whether the Yankees won. He was very exicited to hear “Yankees win World Series 2009″ on the morning news! He also said he feels Matsui’s position on the team is secure now since he score two homeruns, a double, one strikeout and 6 RBI’s.

The commemorative goodies are already being marketed. Right after the Yankees won, I received an email from Macy’s announcing their Waterford crystal World Series commemorative baseball – for a mere $165! While I don’t think we’ll get this one, we did enroll our son in the fan club as a Christmas present.

Way to go, Yankees!

A day after the long-awaited Windows 7 hit the market, Microsoft is back in the news–this time for the less sexy quarterly earnings report. Microsoft’s fiscal report for the period from July to September shows a drastic decrease in sales from the same period last year. While the $3.57 billion in earnings doesn’t sound too bad to you or I, it represents a 17 percent year-over-year drop. On the plus side, the earnings are markedly above what analysts were calling for.

Further boosting the news for Microsoft is that it had deferred revenue on earnings from presales of Windows 7, so the numbers that it reported are below its actual performance. Deferred revenue from the sales amounts to $1.57 billion. Xbox also experienced strong sales in the quarter thanks to cut pricing. While the 2.1 million Xbox units sold is slightly down from last year, it is .9 million units from the previous quarter.

With Windows 7 just hitting stores yesterday and Microsoft stores opening for business, the future is looking up for MS, though the down economy is still expected to impact sales.  In an effort to address this, Microsoft continues to cut operating costs
